After three years of collecting pennies/coppers from families and friends, under the initiative “Your Change Will Make A Change”, the charity went banking after coming to an arrangement with the local Santander Bank, which allowed KASSSI to bank 120 bags of coins once per week! It took the charity 4 visits and a sturdy wheelbarrow to bank in excess of £1400!! Customers were bemused by the spectacle… others were frustrated at the wait.. yet, staff who kept the disruption to a minimum by identifying specific times, applauded the charity’s efforts, imagination and inventiveness!
A special thank you goes out to young master Ebhogiaye who asked his mother “C” if he could donate his coins/savings to the children in rural communities in Jamaica; she agreed. His donation came to exactly £1.00 or approximately $JMD 140. If this was given to a child in the village of Petersville, Westmoreland Jamaica, they would be able to purchase their lunch! Your Change WILL Make A Change!!
“This initiative will continue as people can make contributions without feeling committed” says CEO Garth Walcott
Ben, it’s really encouraging to see that £ 1,400 has been raised by peoples’ individual donations of small change!
Has the KASSSI committee identified any monetary target for this worthwhile cause, and when the target is eventually met, what Jamaican causes or iniatives are in line to benefit from this windfall?
Keep up the good work!
