Bird Box Appeal

The Bird Box initiative came about when Judith, KASSSI’s Secretary, attended a fayre at the school and saw the boxes on sale. She immediately visualised the unique potential and brought one home…… Just a slight alteration’, she said, and the bird box would be a bespoke collection box; mainly for display in gardens and other places that use outdoors facilities e.g. restaurants and bars, but not exclusively!

We agreed to approach the school with a plan to ask if they would like to work in partnership to make a number of boxes for the charity.

WALLINGTON HIGH SCHOOL for GIRLS….… in Partnership with KASSSI!

Mr Slight, who is the Head of I.T. in the Wallington based girls’ school, welcomed our approach. He said he would make it really interesting for the pupils by allowing them “free range” (pun intended) with the decorations on their individual box. Mr Slight also said that he could envisage sheer delight on the face of any girl who saw a box in a shop etc, when they are out and about! The School made a total of 8 boxes for us this time round and they were collected in July, just before the School took its summer recess.

We are looking forward to working with the school again this year 2014/15, when we anticipate new designs and creativity from the girls! Wallington High School do not charge KASSSI for the boxes as they see their involvement as making a contribution to children’s education in rural Jamaica… and to those who are less fortunate!
Special thanks again to the year 9 pupils who should be complimented for producing some fine works. Mr Slight must also be commended for his innovation and support along with KASSSI’s Secretary for her forethought.

The Bird Box is bespoke, unique; and of course post-appeal, can be an eye-catching addition to any garden!

The Box is already, situated in establishments in Thornton Heath, Norwood Junction and East Dulwich and returns are extremely promising.

Willliam Rose & KASSSI – Joint Initiative.

William Rose is an independent, family owned Butchers located at 126 Lordship Lane East Dulwich London SE22 8HD; Telephone 020 8693 9191. The shop provides traditional free-range and organic meat, poultry and game. Jan and Dave (pictured below) are the proprietors and our relationship, which goes back over five years, started purely by chance when we stumbled on the store… having observed the long queues then the service, quality, value and friendship! When the proprietors heard about KASSSI, they were immediately enthusiastic. Both Jan and Dave asked about village life and opportunities for children’s education in Jamaica.

Once they were satisfied about the charity’s legitimacy  and structure, they looked around the shop identifying possible positions where the box would be best placed. They also suggested that the box be in store for an extended period… far beyond our request or expectation. This is an exciting opportunity for the charity as William Rose is the first shop to house our collection box!
