KASSSI proudly accepted an invitation from Dave Tosh, son of the late great Peter Tosh OM who along with Bunny Wailer and Bob Marley was an integral part of the Reggae Band called The Wailers.
Peter, still described as a revolutionary, went on to establish a successful solo career as a singer/song writer and musician before he was gunned down by assassins during a home invasion in 1987.
This invitation was to attend the yearly celebrations held at Peters’ place of birth, which is in Belmont Westmoreland and approximately 9 miles from Whitehouse where KASSSI is based. There was a live broadcast by IRIE FM with presenters: Andrea Williams-Green & Muta-Baruka. Also in attendance were many prominent figures from entertainment, the arts, culture and politics as well as notable Rastafarians; quite fitting as this was Peter’s faith during his life-time. Those taking to the stage included- singers, poets, musicians…. and on the premises there was Ital foods and drinks plus various items on sale.
Ras Ayah V – Radio Personality/Lecturer/Community Activist & staunch KASSSI supporter – Chairman at our 2012 Edutainment activities – made representations on our behalf.
We used the opportunity to link with some patrons including children throughout the course of the day, sensitizing as many persons as possible. We distributed a small quantity of reading books to children as well as discussing health care and dental hygiene, whilst handing out written information about KASSSI. All in all, a very worthwhile meeting for us… despite not being able to escape the ever- present and intoxicating effects of the Hemp derivative!!
The first photo is of Sadie- KASSSI’s founder member- speaking with the renown Dub Poet and Radio Presenter Muta Baruka. Photo 2 depicts a father reading with his son. Photo 3 is Grand children of Peter Tosh with Sadie, and the 4 photo shows Rob- KASSSI’s Treasurer with Peter’s children and grand children.
Can any kind persons or groups donate culturally appropriate reading materials for all ages in order for our work to continue!
