5000 Books for Schools!

In April 2009, Southwark Libraries in London generously donated 5,000 children’s reading books for disribution to three schools in Westmoreland, Jamaica that are currently supported by KASSSI. The schools nominated for the receipt of these books are: Kings Primary, New Hope and Petersville All-age School.

It has taken some time for the funds to be amassed in order to ship the books to to Jamaica, but that milestone has now thankfully been achieved!  The cost of shipping the books from England to Kingston totalled £480.

The transportation costs from Kingston to Whitehouse are estimated to be in the order of £200. We are informed by the education Minister in Jamaica, that any additional duties/taxes will be waived once the Bill of Landing is presented to customs in Jamaica.

The books were collected by Kingsley Shipping Services of Croydon on the 12th February 2010 from the KASSSI Headquarters in Anerley, south London.
