KASSSI and SDC World Cup

Prior to the start of 2007 Cricket World Cup, the Social Development Commission (SDC) was asked to generate community interest.

Together with the Sport Development Foundation, The National Community Cricket was formed. Over 800 communities took part in this activity. Following the world cup the decision was taken that it should be continued. Now in its sixth year, the SDC National Event geared towards advancing gender resulting in good governance, economic prosperity, a sustainable environment & social well-being. KASSSI has worked very closely with the (SDC) community Development & Schools Programmes and were asked to take part in the activities at the Bog Community Centre. Our Tent “pitched” prizes, FREE BOOKS & of course Raffle for the FOOTBALL BOOTS & THE BIG SHIP Puzzle pictured above. Petersville was placed 4th nationally, netting a purse of approximately JM$1000, 00, at the Parish level. Taking part in these events always helps to improve awareness and rapport between KASSSI & communities especially the Children. Connecting Communities is one of our aims.

Winner of these Boots are from an adjoining Parish St Elizabeth, five tickets @JM$50 ea he said was “money well spent.” Whilst this was not a fund raising venture JM$900 raised was added to the Breakfast Programme in the three Schools we currently support. KASSSI will be present at other community activities in order to continue our sensitivity awareness exercise. Children and some parents are excited to receive the FREE books. We are appealing to any organizations out there that can help us to gather some culturally appropriate books/material for ages 3- adult –years.

Thank you
