The Social Development Commission of Jamaica.
KASSSI took another step forward in our journey today when we won accreditation from the Social Development Commission (a branch of the Government of Jamaica). Such was their enthusiasm for KASSSI’s work, they have written a letter imploring the Charity Commission in the UK to begin working with us ASAP!
An excerpt from the letter by Ron Daley, the Parish Manager is outlined below:
“KASSSI is a vibrant and active community group operating at Petersville in the parish of Westmoreland, Jamaica. This group has been in existence since July 2007. Since its inception the members have completed several community Initiatives such as health fair, literacy programmes, the completion of a bus shelter and are currently in receipt of over five thousand (5,000) books for distribution among three schools. Based on their involvement I hereby endorse KASSSI as a credible voluntary charitable organization. We are therefore requesting that you offer your assistance to allow KASSSI to complete their registration as a charitable group thus enabling them to assist much needy students and families.”
The Social Development Commission (SDC) is the principal community organization agency working with Jamaica’s 783 communities. Positioned in the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture since 2007, the SDC continues to execute its legal mandate to inter alia, “promote and control schemes for, and to do any act or thing which may directly or indirectly serve the advancement of – sport, social, cultural & economic development – for the people of Jamaica and workers in particular” (S7/1965).
